Passfaces Face-Recognition Password Replacement Technology

Remembering a face is much easier than remembering a complicated password and is much more secure.

Passfaces Corporation offers a unique patented technology that "uses the human brain’s innate cognitive function to recognize and retain faces".

Passfaces for Windows and Passfaces for the Web, replaces or enhances an alpha-numeric password system for granting people access to systems by using a face recognition strategy.

Passfaces works on the scientificly proven pricipal that the brain can recognise a face for months, or even years after the first encounter.

Passfaces users are given a random set of between three or more faces to serve as their "password".  Then they are taken through a familiarisation process which imprints the faces into their mind for easy recollection.

Afterwards, when the Passfaces user attempts to log on to protected systems, whether on the computers or through the website, the users are then presented with a selection of screens containing nine faces where they are required to select their assigned face from each screen.   This strategy can be used in place of the anti-phishing security image and in place of the typical challenge / response questions to provide a multi-layered authentication approach to meet and exceed multi-factor authentication requirements.

Passfaces claim that their imaged-based technology reduces password related help-desk calls, stops lost productivity caused by forgotten passwords, increases authentication security, and reduces overall costs to companies seeking to secure their netowrk.

To Twitter or Not to Twitter - for Banks and Credit Unions?

Does it Make Cents for Banks and Credit Unions to Twitter?

Many financials are asking this question right now.

The hottest social network on the internet, at this moment in time, is Twitter.  Twitter is a social network that allows anyone to connect to friends, family, celebrities, fan clubs, social clubs, and businesses through the internet or using a cell.  The interesting aspect of Twitter is that we can blog our thoughts, ideas, events, interesting facts, questions & answers, and product information; all in 140 characters or less.

I noticed that the more aggressive credit unions and banks have been setting up social networking sites in an effort to reach out to a greater audience of prospective customers, in particular Millennial, and offer them more convenient services.  Whether this effort has succeeded or not, depends on the effort, and the financial.  However what is obvious is that social networks are taking over where the TV was many years ago.  Marketing to the younger generations, and now to some extend, the older generations, requires going to where they all "hang out"; and right now many are hanging out in MySpace, FaceBook, and Twitter.

Twitter communications requires using short-hand word, brief phrases, or using various tiny urls for domain addresses.  However, with a savvy marketing person, many announcements and marketing messages can be shorten to 140 characters or less to reach that unreachable audience.  Plus consider that Twitter is still a free service, the costs of marketing through Twitter is extremely low.

Marketing through Twitter requires regular updates, called "tweets", that convey some interesting information which entices others to "follow you".  The more tweets that are added, the increased attention the Twitter user gets.  Offering Twitter to your existing members / customers can also increase their loyalty to the financial and increase their word of mouth marketing for the financial.

The results: a very dynamic blog, a bigger audience, and increased search engine optimization for the financial's marketing efforts.

Can Twitter be used for internet banking?  Stay tuned for more information on that.

I will add more about Twitter in future posts.  Or check my Twitter account at www.Twitter.com/SolutionOS .

Electronic Notices and Alerts Cut Large Costs for Financials

eNotices™ and eAlerts Creates Significant Cost Savings for Banks and Credit Unions

Save $1 Per Paper Notice Not Sent and Give Members/Customers Enhanced Service at the Same Time

Hermosa Beach, Calif. (PRWEB) February 19, 2009 -- Electronic notices, which replace paper notices currently sent to members and customers of banks and credit unions, and save one dollar ($1) per notice not sent, are now available for Open Solutions and Summit users.

Eeminder has developed an end-to-end eNotice™ solution which is backward compatible to existing Open Solutions and Summit installations. It covers sending and receiving of email or interactive sms text notices and alerts, FFIEC compliant multifactor authentication, and algorithms to suppress the printing of paper notices for members and customers who elect eNotices™.

"My clients are ecstatic about the hard cost savings that eNotices™ make available. With the average financial institution sending out between ten and thirty thousand paper notices a month, savings accrue immediately and accumulate to enormous savings over the long term," said Griff Griffith, president of Solution Oriented Systems, a technology consulting firm to banks and crediit unions. "And members and customers love the enhanced service and real time notices that they receive."

"For any financial institution looking to cut costs in the current economic environment, this is a no brainer," said Tom Utsch, CEO of Eeminder. "It's low cost, easy to install, and allows a financial institution to offer a great new service of real time alerts and notices and to save a large amount of money in the process."

Interfaces to allow Fiserv and Jack Henry users to benefit from the same cost savings are planned for later this year.

Strong Authentication to 35,000 Users

Solution Oriented Systems and Passfaces Roll Out Strong Authentication to 35,000 Users

Laughlin, NV and Oak Hill, VA … September 8, 2008……..Solution Oriented Systems and Passfaces today
announced that they have completed the roll out of a solution integrating Passfaces innovative strong authentication
technology into an end user application in use by over 35,000 users at a major Wisconsin Credit Union.

“With this multilayer authentication deployment, Passfaces has once again proven that good security can go hand in hand
with a positive user experience”, said Paul Barrett, President and CEO of Passfaces Corporation. “Passfaces is based on
peoples’ innate ability to recognize familiar faces, so unlike passwords or answers to challenge questions, they are almost
never forgotten; and unlike hardware or software tokens, there is nothing to lose or go wrong. Also, Passfaces intuitive
graphical interface provides built-in anti-phishing protection that does not require user training – or vigilance.”

Passfaces was chosen by the Wisconsin-based credit union following extensive research and evaluation of available
strong authentication technologies. Solution Oriented Systems, a consultancy and systems integration company based in
Laughlin, Nevada, was retained by the credit union to advise on the project. “Our client was very aware of the problems
with user acceptance and support experienced by other financial institutions that had adopted strong authentication”, said
Griff Griffith, President of Solution Oriented Systems. “They were adamant from the outset that they didn’t want any
hardware devices or installed software for their users and that portability, ease of use and user acceptance were key
requirements. From an initial shortlist of 7 companies offering strong authentication solutions that fulfilled regulatory
obligations, we quickly narrowed it down to two. However, Passfaces portability and ease of use pushed it over the top.”

The Credit Union’s decision was fully vindicated. The combined SOS/Passfaces solution has been an overwhelming
success. Not only was the software integration problem-free, but the roll-out to the 35,000 users had minimal impact on
their call center. ”Passfaces allowed us to easily provide a layered approach to securing our customer’s internet access,
while positioning their investment for future enhancements”, continued Griffith. “The Passfaces software utilizes the
existing password verification system and, presents the user with an interface that’s familiar and comfortable for them to
use. We were all quite pleased that the flood of help desk calls that you anticipate with any new system just never
materialized! Our experience has shown that the new system with Passfaces received less push back from our users
than that reported with other multifactor authentication strategies, yet provides the necessary account security to meet
and exceed our present and future requirements.”

About Passfaces Corporation
Passfaces is an information security technology company based in Virginia. The Company was founded in 2000 to
commercialize an innovative, patented bidirectional authentication technology that leverages the brain’s innate
cognitive ability to recognize human faces. Our Passfaces™ products offer business, financial services,
government, healthcare and OEM customers a cost effective, fully scalable and highly reliable strong authentication
solution that supports business risk management objectives and is both liked and trusted by users. For additional
